The African Beach B&B is located across the street from North Chesterman,
one of Canada’s premier surf beaches.
It’s a place where
you can get a glimpse of Tofino surf culture at its best – you
can get up early, wander a few steps across the road to check the surf,
suit up for a session, surf until you’re surfed out, and then stroll
back home to warm up and grind a gourmet breakfast before going back
out to do it all over again.
There’s surf every day of the year
in Tofino - North Chesterman cranks on moderate and large winter swells,
and the southeast storm winds blow offshore, grooming the swells into
steep, walled-up waves as they hit North’s steep sandbars.
In summer,
North Chesterman Beach is an ideal spot for beginning surfers, and South Chesterman,
within walking or quick driving distance, picks up the prevailing long-period
south swells.
The rest of Tofino’s surf spots – Cox Bay and
the breaks in the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, which includes Long Beach, Wickaninnish Beach and Florencia Bay – are all within
short driving distance.
If one dreams of surfing green swell all day
and talking story by a beach fire at night before crashing in a funked-out
cabin, there may be no better place than the African Beach.
In addition to the shower in the bathroom, this cabin in Tofino features a second, outdoor shower - popular with visitors surfing in Tofino.
Check the daily Tofino Surf Report from Tofino Time Magazine and Pacific Surf School for the updated forecast of Tofino surfing conditions.
